Finally - what Marine Spouses Have Been Waiting For...

I can't tell you how many FB posts, phone calls and emails we receive asking when MMH will start producing the Marine decals in desert digitals so....I would like to introduce the NEW USMC Desert Digital 12x12 and 5x7 sheets! All of these sheets are currently on order with our supplier so you can't purchase them just yet, but we did want you to be able to see them. We know there will be questions so we wanted to answer some of them up front:
Question: Will the decals have skin tones and hair colors?
Answer: No. For these particular decal sheets, we are trying to keep the family with neutral colors.
Question: How much will each sheets cost?
Answer: The 12x12 sheets will retail for $15 and the 5x7 sheets will retail for $7.50.
Question: When will I be able to purchase these decals?
Answer: We should have them in stock and up on our website hopefully by the end of February.
Question: Will MMH be holding a contest to give away these decals?
Answer: Yes. We plan on holding a give away for the 12x12 sheet during a Valentine's Day contest -to be announced on FB.
Question: Will the Marine Corps Exchanges be selling these decal sheets?
Answer: That is our plan :)
Question: Will MMH still carry the woodland digi decals?
Answer: Yes. Our primary line of decals will not change
Question: Are the decals still manufactured/produced in the USA?
Answer: Yes. We wouldn't have it any other way!!

Happy New Year!!! Every new year, we all make New Year's resolutions that sound really good at the beginning, but somehow seem to fade away as the year passes...MMH's New Year's resolution this year is to:

To blog and tweet more!

The first 2 are easy, but the blogging and twittering are two things that I'm not so good at! And here's a little more about me so will you know why: I'm a Marine Wife, a mother of three children 10, 8 & 7 all of which I homeschool. Not only am I busy with the kids, but we also sell our decals to the Marine Corps Association Bookstore here in Quantico, VA as well as to the one in LeJeune, NC. We still have our contract with the Navy Exchanges and our decals can now be found at over 22 locations. We are also working on other items which will hopefully be introduced by the Spring/Summer timeframe.

When I'm not homeschooling the kids or trying to stay on top of our business, I enjoy baking and photography. I bought a new camera last year and I'm definitely no expert, but I am beginning to understand a little more about lighting, focusing, etc. thanks to my good friend Charisse :) and a few other websites I like to visit. Hi everyone. Hope you are all having a nice summer!! After careful consideration, MMH has decided to no longer produce or carry rubber stamps! The military is ever-changing and starting up and maintaining stamps is very expensive these days! That being said, ALL of our stamps are now 50% off! This clearance sale DOES NOT include our acrylic blocks/handles - we will continue to sell these!

Coming Soon to a Navy Exchange near you!!

Wow! Has it really been a month since I posted last? Sorry about that followers - time flies when you're having fun! We at MMH have been having fun yet working extremely hard on not only our new images, but getting these products put together for the Navy Exchange!

Let us answer some of your questions about what's going on:

Why did you change your images? The Navy wanted us to produce a more generic family. This way the customer wasn't disappointed or upset if they couldn't' find exactly what they were looking for. Our first line was very extensive :).

Why are the majority of the images on the 12x12 sheet? We wanted to give our customers more bang for their buck!

Why did you produce a 5x7 sheet? This sheet was produced to give our customers more images and also to support the Active Duty Female.

Will you still continue to sell your original decals on your website? YES, our original and entire line of decals including Army, Navy, Air Force & Marine will continue to be for sale on our website!

Will I be able to purchase the above 12x12 and 5x7 decal sheets from your website? NO. The Navy still owns the copyright to the NWU pattern and they are NOT giving rights to ANYONE to sell outside the Navy Exchanges at this time.

How much will they cost? We believe the Navy will price the 12x12 for about $15 and maybe $7 for the 5x7, but pricing is at their discretion.

When will these decals sheets be available? We are hopeful that these new decals sheets will be available at 53 Navy Exchanges around the 1st or 2nd week of June.

Will you be producing these sheets for other branches of service? YES! We are working on this right now!

Will MMH be coming out with other items? Yes, but I can't give away any secrets just yet :)!

What in the World??

Well all I have to say is Hmmmm.....what is the world is happening to our government? I just wonder how incompetent we must look to foreign countries right now?

For those of you who may not have heard: If our government can't agree on a budget for the rest of the fiscal year by midnight tonight,the word is that our military paychecks will be covered by the government up until the 8th. Then USAA and Marine and Navy Credit Unions are willing step up and cover the paychecks from the 9th to the 15th. Thank you USAA and Marine & Navy Federal Credit Unions! After that though we are on our own! Let's just hope that our govnernment can get it together by then!!!

Winter Tip for our MMH Family Decals: Be extremely careful during the snowy and winter weather - make sure you don't use an ice scraper over your decals. Even though they are extremely durable, they will not withstand the scraping of an ice scraper :)!

Hot Off the Press - NEW BAH Rates for 2011

If you are stationed here within the US or CONUS (contiguous United States) as it’s called then you will receive Basic Allowance for Housing. This Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) is a U.S. based allowance prescribed by geographic duty location, pay grade, and dependency status.

The Department of Defense released today the 2011 Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) rates, which take effect Jan. 1, 2011. While overall rates will decrease an average of 0.59 percent, because of the individual rate protection provision, (BOO!) the average change service members will see is a 1.1 percent increase (WOW!).

Use this calculator and see what your new BAH is going to be. If you see that your rate has decreased know that:

Individual rate protection ensures that individual members already assigned to a given location will not see their BAH rate decrease, though they will receive the increase if the rate goes up. This assures that members who have made long-term commitments in the form of a lease or contract are not penalized if the area’s housing costs decrease. Any decreases only apply to members newly reporting to a location.

A typical junior enlisted member with dependents will find his/her BAH about $39 per month higher than last year, while a senior non-commissioned officer with dependents will receive about the same amount as last year.

How is BAH calculated?

There are three parts that are used to determine your BAH:

The average rent in the area where you are stationed
the average utility bill in the are that you are stationed, (including electricity, heat, and water/sewer)
Average Renters insurance (if you rent PLEASE make sure you have one!)
This calculations are made for 6 different types of housing styles (type of house/home/appartment and rooms) in military housing areas, then the rates are calculated for the different grades,with dependents and without dependents.

Navy Digital Dads & Sons Now in an NEX near you!

Hi all. I have had tons of emails regarding our New NWU decals! They are available in Dad & Sons in light, medium and dark skin tones. However, I'm sorry to say that you cannot purchase them through our website. There are strict copyright laws regarding the Navy NWU pattern that we must adhere to!

That being said...Nexcom just reordered a substantial quantity of the new NWU decals as well as all the other Navy decals they were out of. Will be shipping the decals to: North Island & 32nd Street (San Diego, CA); Oceana & Norfolk (VA) and Jacksonville & Pensacola (FL) Exchanges on December 6th. The decals can be found in the Navy Pride Section of the Exchange and should be available for purchase around the last week or so of December. If you don't see them in the Exchanges list above around this time, please ask to speak with the manager in the NP section, and hopefully they can either find them in the back for you or at the very least give you an exact time they should be on the floor for purchase.

Okay, well it's not officially Fall, but it's close enough. Fall is absolutely my favorite time of year!! I can enjoy it a little more now being on East Coast and actually watching the leaves changes :). We really love the EC and hope that we will be here for a long time!

Hope you all are enjoying the last few weeks of summer break (I know some children have already started back to school) YIKES!
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Beginning around the end of August/early September, My Military Hero will be offering "yellow" and white dogs. I have had so many requests, I thought we should just go ahead and produce them. Next, we will offer the Marine Corps family wearing the dessert digitals. I personally like the green, but again when enough of our customers request items - we answer!
Next, we will also be introducing Coast Guard family decals to our site around the same same timeframe. We have some in stock right now, but for some reason we were missing the babies (don't know what happened there). So if you just simply can't wait until we get them up on website, you can email me and we can work something out :). Welcome CG family!
Lastly, My Military Hero is now on Twitter - Yay! Twitter 101: Did you know that you don't have to just Tweet from your phone? You can do it from home as well. I wasn't very Twitter savvy so I logged on and started reading. I get very minimal cell reception at our home and didn't think I would be able to Tweet - WRONG! I just received my new Scentsy catalog today and was so excited to see this new Marine Corps Warmer I had heard so much about. I found the warmer in the catalog...I was VERY DISAPPOINTED (to say the least) to find out the warm was blue and not some shade of RED. Yes, maybe blue for... the AF, Navy & CG, but the Marine Corps? That is just wrong! Do you agree or am I toally getting my panties in a wad over nothing? HELP!

My Military Hero Taking the Next Step

Hi Everyone. Hope you are all having a nice summer thus far. Happy belated 4th! I'm sorry that I have not posted in a while, but as most of you know we just completed a cross-country PCS move. Man what a trip...almost 3000 miles - YIKES!! Anyway, we arrived safely - no tickets and all children alive! It actually wasn't that bad of a trip, but thank goodness it will be our last cross-country move (I hope!) We weren't able to get a house on base so we are renting out house just outside of Stafford and we absolutely LOVE IT! I love being back on the EC and so close to family!

On another note, My Military Hero is taking the next step in our business. I just filed all of the LLC (Limited Liability Company/Corporation) paperwork!! I'll post once everything is official!! This is so exciting for us! I also have a meeting with the buyer for MCCS (the Marine Corps Exchange)on Thursday. Please say a little prayer for me that day :)! We are very hopeful to get picked up by MCCS and be able to sell our military car decals at several of their locations. The buyer I have to meet with is a tough sell so I definitely have to have my ducks in a row for the meeting. I'll also let you all know (good or bad) how things go.

New Navy Digital & Flight Suit Decals & Contest

Hi Everyone! Hope you are all enjoying the beginning of summer. I wanted to officically announce our newest decals: the New Navy Digital and Navy Flight Suit females are here! There is one little catch though...we can only sell the Navy Digitals through the Navy Exchanges and not through our website. I know, I know - I'm really sorry, but we had to sign an exclusive copyright contract with the Navy Exchange to even be able to produce these super cute decals. We are able to sell the Navy Flight Suit females and they have just been added to our website.
We just shipped out our first shipment of digitals and flight suits to 6 Exchange locations this past Friday. They should have them in their Navy Pride Section and hopefully to be ready to sell by June 18th. The locations that will be selling our decals are as follows:

New Tooth Fairy Pillows

Our little girl is losing her first tooth and what a better way to help celebrate this occasion, but with a super cute Tooth Fairy pillow. This way the Tooth Fairy will have an easier time finding the tooth and leaving the loot!

Hi everyone. If you are a military spouse with a home-based business or know other military spouses with home-based businesses this post is for you.

For the month of April, I would like to blog about my military customers who have a home-based business. Whether it's Cookie Lee, Avon, Mary Kay or a personal business that you have started yourself. Most companies these days (even small ones like mine) have websites and people can purchase from anywhere around the world. So why not support a fellow military spouse. Hi all. I just wanted to remind you all that Monday, March 1, 2010 our Military Car Decals will no longer be $1 off. I know it's really sad, but I promise we'll do it again really soon! So....if you have been thinking about purchasing our decals, now would be the time!

If you have entered the MMH Military Car Decal contest and are waiting to purchase your decals until after you find out the names of the winners, we will still honor the discount for you - just write in the comment section when you place your order that you were entered and we'll discount your amount before we charge your cc.

We received some really exciting news yesterday in regards to our decals....The Navy Exchange had just placed a reorder! Our decals have only been on the floor at the exchanges for about six weeks, and most of the stores has already sold out of several designs! WooooHooo! We couldn't be more excited & feel very so very blessed!! A BIG thank you to all who have purchased our decals in the past. Please also keep in mind that we do offer a 3 year warranty on decals should anything from the elements happend to them. No, it doesn't count if your hubby scrapes them off with an ice scraper :).

New Marine Dads with Cover

We are pleased to present our new Marine Daddies with cover. When we originally began our business in 2006, we basically just produced military rubber stamps. The image above (without the cover) was a generic "military" daddy stamp that could have include the Marine Corps, Army & Air Force. Each branch is so specific with their "covers", "berets" and "hats" that it was just too expensive to try to include every small detail.
In the latter part of 2007, I started wondering what it would be like to have these same images made in to car decals. In 2008, I contacted several companies and finally found one that made our images come to life. We are still using this company today and have been very happy to keep our decals produced in the United States! We began with just producing the Marine Corps decals. The daddies had black hair (like my hubby); the wife brown hair; the sons black hair and the daughters & baby girls black hair. As they became more popular, we started producing all hair colors.
Upon moving to our current duty station, people started asking for all branches of service. Thus, we began producing Army, Navy, Air Force and even Coast Guard decals. We are still working out the kinks on some branches, but I definitely think we are moving in the right direction. We try to have the most up-to-date uniforms and accessories for each branch of service. This can definitely prove difficult at times because as most of you know, the uniforms seem to be constantly changing.

Cake Balls

Hi all. My friend Lydia gave me this yummy & super quick recipe and I thought i would pass it along!! Thanks Lydia :)

Cake Balls

1 cake mix and ingredients to make it

1 can frosting

dipping chocolates (I used 2 bags of Wilton melting chocolates)

Bake cake, cool & crumble cake in mixing bowl. Add frosting and mix. Form into balls - mine were just bigger than a quarter. Chill for about 15-20 minutes - this hardens the frosting and they stay intact for dipping. Makes approximately 50 cake balls.

New Decal Packaging

Here is our new decal packaging. We have been working extremely hard on getting all the details together and it's finally finished! Albeit not perfect, it will definitely work for us for now. We have been packaging what feels like around the clock. Thank you to my best friends here in Monterey (Stacy & Jessica) for helping me package - I love you girls!!

It will be my plan to try and post at least once a week. For my weekly post, I will be having card samples using our military stamp line. If you have purchased stamps from us, please feel free to email me your samples and I will post them on my blog.

A Little Bit About Me

Hey guys - welcome to my first post of "My Military Hero" blog. I'm new to this but thought this would be a great opportunity to keep you updated with family and business news.

For those of you who don't know me, I am a Marine Wife of 11 years - you can see my family to the left. My husband, Jason has been in the Corps for 14 years now (I've been with him since year 2)...it's hard to believe how fast time goes by. We have three children - Brandon (8), Bode (soon to be 6) and Chloe (4).

I started our business, My Military Hero, in August 2006 while stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA . Originally, I wanted to make military-specific rubber stamps for scrapbooking. That's where things started but now we do all kinds of wonderful military related things (most of them being handmade). One of our hottest items is the military family car decal...we have them for all five branches of service (Coast Guard included). They are a great way to show off your family while conveying your military service with pride! Constantly a work-in-progress, you can see what we do at our website http://www.mymilitaryhero.net.

We are currently stationed in Monterey, CA - Jason is going to the Naval Postgraduate School getting his MS in Operations Analysis. It's a nice area even though it never gets very warm...I guess that could be a blessing too!

I was fortunate to find a space at the Exchange here to set up our first storefront, the My Military Hero Boutique. We have all of our items for sale there as well as hand-crafted items from nine other military spouses. It's a beautiful conglomerate of hair bows, purses, jewelry, candles, stamps, embroidery...all kinds of wonderful things. We all take turns working there, so it's relatively low-stress.

I will be updating this as regularly as possible (with three kids and a business), so please come back! For all of you who have supported me so far with the business, thank you! Things are moving forward and we are hoping to get a contract with the Navy Exchange soon!
